Description of Work The DAID Program Regional Coordinator supports North Carolina’s impaired‑driving reduction efforts by delivering technical training, performing regional field operations, and ensuring the reliability of evidential and preliminary breath alcohol testing programs. This position provides instruction in Standardized Field Sobriety Testing (SFST), Alcohol Screening Test Devices (ASTDs), and evidential breath testing in alignment with state laws, administrative code, and national program standards. It performs preventive maintenance, inspections, and connectivity verification for Intox EC/IR II instruments and regional test sites to ensure accurate and legally defensible results. The DAID Program Regional Coordinator role also maintains training equipment, documentation, and operational readiness across a multi‑county region while offering expert guidance to law enforcement agencies. The coordinator functions within the Forensic Tests for Alcohol Branch and supports both regional and statewide initiatives as operational needs arise. *Regions covered: Person, Wake, Caswell, Durham, Franklin, Granville, Halifax, Nash, Northampton, Orange, Warren, and Yancey Key Duties Include: - Develop and deliver SFST, ASTD, and evidential breath testing courses consistent with program standards and legal requirements. - Coordinate training facilities, schedules, rosters, materials, and laboratory environments to ensure effective instructional delivery. - Perform preventive maintenance on Intox EC/IR II instruments at required intervals and document all work in accordance with administrative code. - Inspect regional test sites, stock necessary supplies, and verify monthly electronic connectivity between instruments and the FTA Electronics Lab. - Diagnose and resolve equipment issues affecting breath‑testing functionality, calibration sites, or data transmission. - Maintain and manage regional training equipment, including instruments, gas canisters, instructional materials, and associated supplies. - Provide technical assistance and expert testimony regarding breath‑testing instruments, impairment indicators, and applicable laws and procedures. - Establish and maintain constructive working relationships with law enforcement personnel, chemical analysts, and partner agencies within the region. - Supervise an assigned Field Technician, ensuring accurate work activities, performance monitoring, scheduling, and completion of preventive maintenance tasks. - Prepare and maintain required reports, training records, equipment documentation, and other administrative materials using standard software applications. Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences Salary Range: $50,088.00 - $87,654.00 Recruitment Range: $50,088.00 - $63,641.00 Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred: Demonstrated expertise maintaining breath‑testing instruments, including hands‑on experience performing scheduled service, verifying proper operation, and accurately documenting equipment performance. Advanced proficiency delivering structured training programs for law enforcement personnel, including experience conducting classroom instruction, managing course materials, and evaluating participant performance. Strong competency managing technical equipment used in training and field operations, including experience preparing instructional environments, maintaining supplies, and ensuring equipment readiness for certification activities. Proven skill presenting technical information in formal settings, including experience explaining scientific or procedural concepts and supporting legal processes through clear, accurate communication. Demonstrated success supervising operational staff, including assigning work, monitoring results, providing feedback, and ensuring timely completion of region‑based tasks and documentation. Physical Requirements: Lift 50 pounds. Load and unload a cargo van. Load-in and load-out equipment at training and test sites. Operate and drive a cargo van long and short distances.
